TThe FCC has published a list of the full-power television stations that (1) have terminated or will be terminating their analog operations before February 17 and (2) that have notified the FCC of their intent to terminate analog operations on February 17.  There are 190 stations in the former group and 491 stations in the latter group, for a total of 681 stations terminating service on or before February 17.

The FCC’s list of stations terminating analog service on or before February 17, 2009 can be accessed here: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-09-221A3.pdf.  The first four and one-half pages of this list identify stations terminating prior to February 17; the remainder of the list identifies stations terminating on February 17.

The FCC also published a second list identifying (market-by-market) not only those stations that are terminating on or before February 17, but also those stations that will continue to broadcast analog signals after February 17.  That list can be accessed at http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-09-221A5.pdf.

The public notice accompanying the release of these lists reminds stations that the FCC has reserved the right to review the list of stations intending to terminate on February 17 and to assess whether allowing particular stations or groups of stations to proceed with the planned termination would be contrary to the public interest.  For example, the FCC indicated that if it finds that all or most of the stations in a particular market will be terminating on February 17 and that the market is one in which many viewers are unprepared for the transition, the FCC may ask stations for additional information justifying their decision to terminate analog operations on February 17.
