FCC Releases Annual Cable Price Survey Supplemental Questionnaire

In January 2008, the FCC sent its annual survey concerning cable service and equipment rates to select cable operators in preparation for its Report on Cable Industry Prices. Cable operators selected to respond to the survey were required to submit their completed questionnaire to the FCC in March of this year. The FCC has since determined that it needs additional information and has released a supplemental questionnaire for completion by the same sample group of operators no later than September 29, 2008.
The survey covers information that was not contemplated by the earlier questionnaire, including technical information on the nature of the cable system (analog, digital, or a combination) as well as information on the nature of the converters made available to subscribers (analog, digital, high definition, etc.).
Data submitted in response to the supplemental survey will be made public only in the form of averages representing segments of the industry. However, operators wishing to seek confidential treatment for competitively sensitive information to be provided in connection with the survey must submit a request in accordance with Sections 0.457 and 0.459 of the Commission’s rules.
